cabecera17[1]

I have been invited to participate as a member of the scientific committee on the 6th Interdisciplinary workshop on Rockfall Protection that will take place in Barcelona in May 2017.

The topics that will be covered include:

    • Rockfall source identification and characterization
    • Rockfall inventory and/or mapping
    • Parameters’ characterization and tests
    • Hazard and risk analyses
    • Rockfall modeling
    • Monitoring and alert systems
    • Mitigation and protective measures
    • Large rockfalls and rock avalanches
    • Case histories

Hoping to see you there!

All the best,

Antonio

The 12th international symposium on landslides is approaching, the program include four days of technical sessions and three days of technical excursions and field trips.. Some interesting dates to be remembered include:

Abstract Submission: June 30 th, 2015
First Paper Submission: October 15th, 2015
Final Submission: January 31st, 2016

We carried out several presentations and I was also the conviner of a short course on the use of 3D point cloud in geosciences, I meet lots of old colleagues and I did some new friends, which was great

[toggle title=”XII International Association Engineering Geology Conference “] [/toggle]

The conference will be runned around eight main topics, as follows: 1. Climate change and engineering geology; 2. Landslide processes; 3. River basins, reservoir sedimentation and water resources
4. Marine and coastal processes; 5. Urban geology, sustainable planning and landscape exploitation; 6. Applied geology for major engineering projects
7. Education, professional ethics and public recognition of engineering geology; 8. Preservation of cultural heritage

More information will arrive soon… on the meantime, I will keep myself updated on the conference filedtrip about landslides (see link here)

The 2014 ISRM European Rock Mechanics Symposium (EUROCK 2014) was held in Vigo, Spain, on May 27-29. As a member of the scientific committee of the Eurock2014 conference, I’m very proud on how the conference was managed from my colleagues both form the University of Vigo and the Spanish National Group of the ISRM. I leave a link to a pdf copy of the conference’s program here

University of Lausanne, Switzerland
(+Short course 05 February 2014)

I had the honor to participate in the preparation of the conference and on the short courseorganized by our Risk Anlaysis Group (Jabo’s team). The conference was a complete succes and now we are preparing an special issue with a series of selected publications. I invite you to see the program and several pdf’s of the conference on the website of the : http://www3.unil.ch/wpmu/risk/events/vgc-14/

I had the chance to participate in the 2nd International Summer School on Water Research, focusing this year on the initiation of shallow landslides as slope response to rainfall. More info on the oficial website here.

The course was organized by my colleagues at University of Calabria and the outstanding knowledge of the lectures coming from all over the world truly inspired me: Dino G. Bellugi (MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Matteo Berti (Bologna University) Giovanna Capparelli and Giuseppe Formetta (Calabria University), Ning Lu (Colorado School of Mines), Federico Preti (Firenze University), Riccardo Rigon (Trento University) and Maria Cristina Rulli (Politecnico di Milano). The program can be consulted here.

The location of the course at Praia a Mare allowed us to continue discussing different approaches on landslide modeling and informally discussing some of the course notes during sunset at beach. My stay here was just perfect, so many thanks from here to the organizing team.

Finally, the different backgrounds of my course colleagues broadened my horizons regarding the definition of different approaches for similar problems. This type of initiatives are really important for all the multidisciplinary community of landslides researches using different approaches, allowing next generation of European Principal Investigators establishing and maintain future research networks. Guys, I would like to met you all in the future!
